POKOTABI / MARQUEE MOON
マーキー・ムーン
At Tsukishima wine bar Marquee Moon, creative small plates like tsukudani mascarpone and boiled lamb dumplings pair effortlessly with wine before a satisfying final dish.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Browsing the menu with a glass in hand to decide what to pair next is part of the appeal at Marquee Moon, a wine bar in Tsukishima. Lined with a generous selection of bottles on its shelves, the bar serves small plates that go well beyond conventional Western tapas, each prepared with an inventive spin. One distinctive example is the tsukudani mascarpone, blending savory soy-simmered preserves from Tsukiji Edoichi with mascarpone and cream cheese, where rich dairy and Japanese umami naturally invite another sip of wine. Aromatic details carry through the rest of the cold dishes, from liver paste deepened with Saikyo miso and ginger to slow-cooked gizzard confit infused with herbs and spices.
For something hot, the dim-sum-style offerings stand out, including boiled lamb and wood ear mushroom dumplings accented with Sichuan pepper and maqaw, as well as house-made shrimp and pork shumai. More robust dishes offer further pairing possibilities, such as oven-baked chickpeas and sausage seasoned with an Indian spice blend, or fresh Margherita-flavored sausage that releases melted cheese and meat juices when sliced. Another appealing choice is the house-made oil sardine, prepared using a whole Japanese pilchard and finished with fish sauce for a satisfying balance of savory fish and gentle acidity.
To round out drinks, satisfying meal options include a spicy green curry dipping noodle served with thick Handa somen, the day's spiced curry, or a daily pasta. For dessert, a rich house-made coconut ice cream crafted simply from coconut cream and cane sugar brings the meal to a thoughtful, handmade finish.
With its relaxed pace, the bar is easy to visit on your own, offering both counter and table seating where diners can settle in comfortably. Because seating is limited, reservations can be made ahead of time, and cashless payment is accepted.
